Why Open EXPO

"How much does Expo cost to us? Who has received assignments as a consultant? What stage have single worksites reached? These are some of the questions which this website can give an answer to.

Open Expo is the means for a transparent 2015 Universal Exposition, without secrets for citizens and so, truly open to whom intends to partake. This initiative launched by the Italian Government is the result of the partnership between Expo 2015 S.p.A and Wikitalia, and is supported by Italy’s Department for the Public Administration through Formez PA. The project started on July 8, 2014 with the signing of the protocol establishing the due time for releasing data and the rules for a – free – collaboration that is going to last until the end of the event, namely October 31, 2015.

The outcome is this website allowing for – open format – consultation of all information concerning the management, planning, organization and carrying out of the event. In such a context, Open Expo intends to enhance the information that was released by Expo 2015 S.p.A. in the section Transparent administration, thus making the data on the economic management of the event (inflows and outflows, purchases, payments and related beneficiaries), the carried out works (worksites, description of the works, amounts envisaged for their carrying out) and the possible variants during the conduction of the event (number of visitors, mobility and public transport) available.

The OpenExpo2015 portal is developed according to four distinct and closely interrelated sections:

  • Works Dashboard where you can surf the information on the progress of each single worksite of the 2015 Universal Exposition, which is browsable by menu or by means of a dynamic map.
  • The open data catalogue, where you can browse and download the datasets displayed by Expo 2015
  • Work Map, all Expo 2015 works that are completed or are being carried out, georeferenced in a browsable map.
  • News, constantly updated news about the project and related topics are available in this section.

The OpenExpo2015.it website is realized on the basis of open source technological platforms, in particular, Drupal, CKAN, OpenStreetMap.
